We are a small rescue organization in Columbia, South Carolina. Our mission is to help displaced pets find the ideal, forever homes they deserve. To this end, we nurture and train our foster pets in private family homes to restore them to physical and emotional health; we have a highly selective, in-depth application process; we offer a one-month trial adoption period; and we offer follow-up training for owners and dogs together. We try to match families and pets according to both lifestyle and temperament. In particular, we rescue and spay/neuter small, purebred dogs and purebred cats of all sizes to prevent them from being exploited for profit. When possible, we try to help pets of all breeds and sizes, sometimes by working together with other pet rescue groups.

     Why Small Dogs?

Our mission is rescuing small purebred dogs. The reason for this is that small dogs are the most vulnerable. They can easily become scared of children and other people. Many people buy them as pets/toys for their children. At first the puppy might be great with their children but as the dog matures he/she will start to fight back often injuring the child. The dog is then taken to a shelter where it is usually either put down or adopted to another home with children. At many shelters the staff is not allowed to turn down any would be adopters, so an emotionally traumatized dog is then subjected to further misery by being placed in an inappropriate home.

ALL ABOUT PUPPY MILLS

Puppy mills are places in which the dogs are kept in small wire cages or pens with no shelter, often living in their own filth. These dogs are typically very shy, skittish, matted, excitable, and undersocialized. Many of the dogs we get come from mill situations. They take a lot of hard work and patience, but If you are willing to devote the time to them they will become the best pets anyone could wish for. This is where the puppies in the pet store come from. Don't buy a puppy or pet care supplies from a pet store that sells puppies! A person who buys a pup from a store or flea market may think he is "rescuing" the pup but is actually supporting and encouraging the industry, thereby condemning more dogs to live in misery as breeders.
